What is Sláintecare Healthy Communities Athy?
Sláintecare Healthy Communities will see the Department of Health, working with the HSE,
Local Authorities and community agencies to provide increased health and wellbeing services
in the Athy area.
Who is your Local Development officer?
Maria Healy is the Athy Sláintecare Healthy Communities Local Development Officer. On behalf of the Local Authority, Maria
will be working to enhance the rollout of the programme in Athy. Through collaboration with the community, community partners
and HSE, Maria will work to identify the health and wellbeing needs of the Athy community and look to address these needs at
a local level through a variety of programmes and initiatives.

What is happening locally?
To help improve and promote healthier lifestyle behaviours a range of services have been established locally. These
programmes, are delivered by the HSE and community agencies and are now available.
Other agreed initiatives will be delivered through collaboration with a range of statutory and voluntary organisations, local
businesses and other bodies in partnership with the HSE Dublin South, Kildare, West Wicklow and Kildare County Council.
These will work together to provide dedicated services and supports to build lasting improvements in health and wellbeing in Athy
The People Park Athy
Through the Slaintecare Healthy Communities Programme funding was received to carry out enhancement works to the Peoples Park in Athy.
As you venture into the Park you will see that the following works have been completed..
- Widening and resurfacing of all the existing paths.
- Installation of a new path to create a looped walk.
- Replacement benches with paved surrounds have been installed.
- A new bench with paved surround has been installed on the new pathway.
- All old picnic benches have been replaced with new accessible picnic benches and paved surrounds installed.
These works will help make the park accessible to all members of the community and create a space where they can engage in activities that support and enhance their health and wellbeing.
